About Us
Lisa was a lifelong sufferer of asthma and allergies until she discovered the Buteyko Breathing Technique about 10 years ago.
Now she's a breathing educator trained under the auspices of the Buteyko Breathing Educators Association.
Lisa grew up in San Francisco, lived across the Bay in Oakland for many years and now calls Marin County home.
Allergies and asthma limited her life for a long time and she's thrilled to be able to teach others techniques she learned that helped her overcome those difficulties for herself.
"As a kid, I couldn't go to slumber parties because most of my friends had cats and dogs, which I was allergic to," she remembers. "Before I stopped going altogether in the third grade, I would routinely wake up in the middle of the night with a major asthma attack in front of several other little girls. Pretty embarrassing and uncomfortable."
She didn't excel in sports, couldn't learn how to ride a horse because she was allergic to them. and got lots of colds all winter long...
These limitations extended into her adulthood when she felt uncomfortable going to parties at homes with pets.
These days, Lisa has two dogs at home and is a Masters swimmer!

"First, Lisa is such a welcoming and warm person. Though we spent only a weekend together, I knew immediately that her empathy, together with her skill and experience, were going to be beneficial for me. The weekend helped increase my self awareness, introduced a new perspective on the issues I face around breathing and anxiety, and provided me with practical tools that I have incorporated into my daily life. This is the only retreat I've done (and I've done a lot) that made a longstanding impact on me. Thank you for the help, Lisa! I look forward to continuing our work together and learning how to "relax" more :)"

"Hi Lisa, I wanted to thank you again for the class last weekend and give you a quick update. I paid close attention to my breathing in the days following class and realized I mouth-breathed a lot while working and talking. During an eight-to-ten-hour day that's quite a bit. I began nose-breathing and taping my mouth at night and within a few days my headaches stopped. I woke up feeling rested and the aches and pains of a physical job have mostly gone away. Also I'm calmer, more mentally clear and alert. I'm amazed at how much of a difference this has made. Thanks so much!"

Breathing Retraining Center's educational products, courses and coaching are designed to improve breathing skills for people whose issues may be related to habits that have the potential to be improved, as a self-care/wellness activity. Breathing difficulty may be a warning sign of a life-treatening heart or lung condition, infection or other illness. Always check with your doctor about your own situation.
The Buteyko Breathing Technique and other breathing-retraining strategies we teach are an alternative approach and are not the practice of medicine, psychology or a form of psychotherapy, nor are they a substitute for seeking medical or psychological advice from an apporpriate professional health-care provider. We want to make the important distinction between using the Buteyko Breathing Technique and other breathing-retraining strategies for health and well-being and the practice of medicine, psychology or any other licensed health-care profession.
